TIPS FROM A TRAINER: Practice Your Push-ups!
Push-ups aren’t as scary as they seem! If you're looking to get your first full push-up or build a solid foundation to improve your push-ups, start by making them part of your everyday routine around the house.
Start by standing and pushing yourself off the wall. As you get more comfortable with that, start experimenting with different levels… counters, stairs, chairs, step stools, whatever sturdy surface you have available. Lowering the level a little at a time is a great way to gradually work toward pushing yourself off the floor in a full range of motion.
And if you're nervous to go from a counter to a chair because it feels like a big change in angle, try adding a little plyo! Yup, push those hands off the counter when doing the push-up and land them softly back on the counter. It’s a fun way to build confidence, power, and control.
Levels aren’t just for your hands, they’re for your feet too! Once you’ve mastered a full push-up, try elevating your feet for an extra challenge and a new way to build upper body strength.
